Originally designed for aquariums, Fluval Stratum has taken the houseplant world by storm.
Collected from the mineral rich foothills of the famous Mont Aso Volcano in Japan, Fluvial Substratum was originally designed to be used in aquariums, but has since generated a cult following from many house plant enthusiest.
The addition of FLUVAL PLANT MICRO NUTRIENTS will ensure a full complement of essential macro and micro nutrients. The substrate’s light, non-compacting, porous structure is also highly beneficial to nitrifying bacteria, which rapidly colonize the vast porous surface, providing the optimal environment for plants.
The secret ingredient as to why Fluval stratum can grow houseplants so effectively is the ability to slightly acidify the pH to a level that is ideal for plant nutrient uptake.
We love using this substrate in terrariums, and its also commonly used to grow seedlings, propagate plants, or as an addition to an airy nutrient-rich growing mix.
Fluvial stratum can also be used in hydroponic set-ups. You can simply fill a pot with your favourite hydroponic medium and just add fluvial substratum around the root ball, or create a mix of 50% fluvial stratum and 50% hydroponic medium.
